OK .. some of the countries who have the worst human rights violations and "are notorious for stifling human rights and personal freedoms" (such as China, Cuba, Iran) are now pushing for the US to give control of the Intenet to the UN. That's right, folks, the people who brought the Oil For Food scandal now want to control the Internet. The biggest, best and brightest (and sometimes worst) tool modern man has ever had for communication could turn into nothing more than a heavily-taxed propaganda machine. Does anyone really think that people posting info in the Net in China, Cuba or Iran will actually be free to say what they feel and/or believe without fear of persecution? I didn't think so.
I have to agree with Bobby Eberle on this one:
The Internet is a strange medium… Al Gore invented it, and now the U.N. wants to control it. This could mean we’d be putting the Internet into a “lock box” with Iran, Syria, and China holding the keys? That premise is simply unacceptable, and the best option is to keep the Internet free… under the watchful eye of America.
